Here's some info for anyone else who doesn't know a lot about it! :hi:

At Lughnasadh, the Wheel of the Year begins to shift from growing time to harvest time. The subtle changes of the waning sun that occurred at Summer Solstice becomes more evident as the balance of day and night seem to shift more dramatically. The slight seasonal changes in weather, and the declining arc of the sun, the southern movement of it rising and setting are other indicators of this shift. "After Lammas, corn ripens as much by night as by day."

Although temperatures can still be high, the mood and sensation of the year most decidedly changes. We enter the harvest time. It is the point in time when the first grains are collected and ritualistically sacrificed to ensure the continuance of the cycle of life both physically and spiritually.

6. Back atcha, DR
Glad your garden is doing well. Mine has tanked for the second year in a row for some reason. I think I've got it in the wrong spot in the yard--there's been plenty of sun this year (not like last year), but maybe it's not getting as much sun as it seems--most stuff won't grow. I've gotten one zucchini and one cucumber so far. That's IT. A couple of tiny eggplants are peeping out, which is good. Peppers--nuthin'. Bean plants died on the vine (prolly because Mr. MG didn't water while I was out of town during their pivotal growth period). Tomatoes--a couple of small green ones that don't seem to be growing.

Humph. That's it--next year I'm breaking ground in a different spot. x(

8. Interesting MG, my garden has been strange this year too.
Things were just not growing...everyone in town has been saying the same thing. Such a struggle this year!!*

Only recently have some of the plants started producing and ripening. Still the tomatoes are just sitting there...small and green...and I have watered the heck out of it-have to in the high desert.

Yeah, its like things are just sitting and waiting.....in my lighter moments, I am wondering if its is just the space Mother Earth is in...waiting to see what these crazy fool humans will do next.In my less "light" moments I wonder if the energies on earth are just not conducive to growing...for whatever reason.

Hmmm......

*perhaps that is the theme of the year......

i am wondering if there will be any zuchini....

could it be because of declines in bees, and less pollenation? or has the evil monsanto fucked with all our seeds?

7. You're welcome!
It's a minor sabbat and too often gets overlooked, but as Dream says, even though it's still summer, you can feel a distinct shift toward fall as it gets darker earlier and such. Plus in the States we tend to think of the harvest as a fall thing, but it really begins around now, with the bounty of fruit like peaches and plums and "the berries beyond straw-", and of course lots of corn. :9 I think the photo is a little too fall-ish, what with the gourds and all, but I was in a hurry. :P

11. this is one of my favorite "holidays" in the Pagan world
lots of water splashing games, good food, all getting ready for the next turn of the wheel, Solstice.

Thanks for the beautiful picture. I miss my clan. Someday, I'll have another to share this cross quarter ritual.

14. I shouldn't say I don't have a clan
ASAH is my clan. But it would be fun if we could dance together in the flesh instead of just the ether.
Big  back to you sweet Sister
