Visits/messages from the Animal Kingdom?
Edited on Fri Oct-01-10 07:32 AM by OneGrassRoot
I bring animal totems up periodically as I'm quite drawn to that as one of my primary sources of guidance, along with dreams.

I wanted to share my most recent encounter, and a few websites I like to use to look up such wisdom. If you have favorite similar sites, please share. :hi:

Last night, quite late, I was sound asleep when my daughter called to ask me to pick her up (it was supposed to be a sleepover but she remembered a commitment this morning and felt it best to come home).

Quite unusually, I did not pull into the garage as I normally would (which likely would have meant I would have run over this creature :(), because my daughter didn't want to encounter spiders (lots of rain here, colder weather, wolf spiders become abundant, especially at night :)).

I let her out, and was THEN going to pull into the garage, but when she got out she said, "Um, there's a lizard here that won't move."

I got out to shoo the little creature out of the way -- many lizards here and they scurry away quickly -- to see that it wasn't the typical lizard. And, it hardly moved when I got right next to it.

Then I realized, it's a salamander! A pure black salamander. I don't recall ever seeing one before, probably because they are primarily nocturnal.

It took forever for me to gently encourage him/her to go into the grass, off the driveway.

So, I knew there was a message for me (and perhaps my daughter as well?) since events conspired to make sure we saw him/her. :)

http://www.linsdomain.com/totems/pages/salamander.htm

The appearance of a Salamander totem heralds transformation,
but offers assistance with this change from somewhere outside of ourselves,
either through an unexpected person or unique resource.
This assistance is temporary and will stay only as long as needed.

Harmony with the environment is very important to people with a Salamander totem.
It is key to a successful transformation –
answers and solutions will be found in the environment around us.

1. A nice visit!
I love salamanders. :loveya:

They're also fire magic, because it was once believed that salamanders were born of fire. (Apparently it was because they used to scoot out of damp logs that were thrown on fires.) When we (pagans) invoke the element of fire, we call upon our brother Salamander.

2. Wonderful!
I need some kind of animal guidance right about now, some guidance anyway. I think salamanders and lizards are both really cool beings.

3. what a cool experience
I kind of "get" it because salamanders are known for being able to regrow various parts of their bodies, and scientists study salamanders quite a bit, often having to do with regeneration of limbs.

4. Back when I could spend time in the wilderness, salamanders were one of my favorites
I'd find them on the trails where it was wet, and in the dawn, dusk and evenings. The ones I would see were brightly colored.

Unfortunately the site you linked to doesn't list parrots as a totem. But then Peri, I'm beginning to suspect, is the return of my old friend, Abby, the cat I spent the better part of my adult life with. That's more like an eternity-buddy than a totem.

5. Here'a a fun site that IHAD introduced me to yesterday
I was having trouble concentrating while I worked as there was a jackhammer outside my window... so you could use it for white noise or you could use it for it's intended use...

6. So VERY awesome!!!

Wow, thanks IHAD and rosesaylavee! :loveya:

Yesterday I was focused on the setting the intention that life be effortless. I added "effortless" to my longstanding mantra of "with grace and ease."

I went to this amazing site...did as instructed...clicked and received this:

8. Okay, you made me go!
Well, not really--I went willingly! ;)

Anyway, I have always had several totem animals--some come for a short time, some are always there but come forward when they're more relevant and fade into the background when other types of power are more necessary. So I thought I'd ask which totem animal is necessary at this point in my life. As I was gazing at the forest stream scene (pretty), my kitty jumped up and did her "rub face on laptop screen corner and tilt it" thing, so I thought "Watch me get a kitty for a totem."

Um, I got this.

Ain't THAT a message about strength!!

10. I got the gorilla yesterday when I was fuming about the noise
and to be honest, I felt like approaching the workers outside making the noise in much that same manner. Made me laugh pretty hard which helped me return to my more human form and attitude. :)

12. The Bear
Hmm -- that's interesting. Never really thought of that as my totem animal. Kind of thought it would be either a bird or some other flying critter.

Gotta study on that one.

Thanks for the link.

13. I went there too
and got the seagull.
It doesn't sound good but it has a great message. http://www.poweranimalsunleashed.com/power_animal_005seagull.htm
I can really relate to the message. It sounds like an eagle over the ocean.

15. Very Large Spiders
have been attracted to me lately. Last night and then again tonight-- on my paper (one was on my drafting paper, the other on my writing paper).

On the day of One Nation we saw two hawks-- one white and one black circling in the sky like a big ying/yang symbols. I can't think of the type of hawk- pigeon hawk?

17. OGR, do you know anything about visits from the plant kingdom?
This afternoon I was sitting outside in a garden drinking coffee when a cluster of pine needles fell on my head.
I looked around and saw that the nearest pine tree was on a slope about thirty feet away. Two other trees were closer but they were broad-leaved, not needled.

I think those pine needles were an omen, particularly when the wind took them that far to land on me. Now if only I could figure out what the omen meant.

18. I found the following...

I don't know as much about the plant kingdom, and have never been able to find information as readily re: plant kingdom wisdom as for animal wisdom. It's probably there...I just can't find it as readily. :)

I did find the following regarding the pine:

http://www.whats-your-sign.com/tree-symbolism.html

Pine: Because of their endurance, and steadfastness even in the most harsh weather conditions, the pine trees are honored Chinese symbols for long life. The pine is often depicted in Chinese art with other symbols of longevity such as the peach, the god Sau, deer, and also mentioned in the tales of the Eight Immortals. Having pine trees on your property is said to be highly auspicious. Take care to always keep these healthy as they will assure long happy lives for you and all those who live upon your property.

Pine - creativity, life, longevity, immortality

All in all it seems like a most auspicious omen. Of course, it's how you resonate with the pine and how you felt when it occurred that is most important. Perhaps where you were is part of the message when this occurred.

19. Black cat in the neighborhood

(no time or brain power to proof...engage your psychic skills to read, please ;))

My neighbor's cat (George) is primarily an outdoor kitty, and he pretty much lives here with me. Since I work from home, he hangs out various places around my home throughout the day, and is often here throughout the night as well. I used to let him in all the time before I discovered he wasn't homeless; the neighbor didn't take kindly to me adopting him. But, George and I are inseparable, no matter what his "real" mother says. :) George is black and white, btw.

Lately I've noticed him being bothered by a new cat in the neighborhood. A pure black cat. No idea if he/she belongs to anyone, but he/she seems well fed and, simply, well.

I always welcome other cats so long as they play nice and don't bother George, who has seniority. Of course, any cats in need take priority over George's seniority. I have two indoor kitties, Magick and Buddha, who observe the outdoor goings-on with complete detachment.

Several years ago one such kitty in need -- a gray Maine Coon cat who also appeared to have bobcat mixed in, aptly named "Gray Kitty" -- found his way here and we began a long courtship. He started off always keeping his distance, never coming near when he'd see me or another human. He gradually came onto the deck to eat and drink what I left out for him; he and George grew to tolerate one another; and toward the end they hung out here peacefully, together, and he waited for me each day to feed him and even let me pet him.

He was very old though...was losing his teeth, poor baby...and one day he never returned (interestingly, it was right around the same time I lost my two other older indoor kitties, six weeks apart...Jack and Rosie). So much loss during that year...

So, in observing this black cat I've been so confused, because it looks slightly different each time I've seen it. Of course, he/she is always running away, with George all upset and what hair he has left standing on end.

One time I thought I detected Maine Coon features and wondered if he/she may be an offspring of Gray Kitty.

Basically, however, I've been concerned my eyesight is even worse than I realize, as I just can't seem to zoom in on this kitty's features. There's something slightly different every time I see him/her.

Last night as I drove out of the neighborhood, low and behold, at the end of one neighbor's driveway sat a black cat. Directly across, at the end of another neighbor's driveway, sat ANOTHER black cat. Staring at one another.

There are TWO new black kitties...both driving George crazy and making me think I'm going blind!

:)

22. I wonder if that's one reason many people find black cats "spooky"?
Maybe it's (at least partially) the simple matter that it's hard to tell two of them apart, so they can seem to move around unpredictably if you're dealing with more than one.

20. Bunnies!
And I ran into a big fat frog the other night, just sitting in my path. There have been bunnies in the same spot outside the door for 2 mornings now. My dog ran into the blackberry patch trying to get one and got caught up in the thorns. She tried to do it again this morning but I stopped her. :) The squirrels have been coming to my window lately as well. 'Tis the season.

Bunnies frolicking, squirrels coming to the window, a dog running through the blackberry patch (albeit halted by thorns...lol).

24. I have friends who believe this wholeheartedly...

Especially in dream state believe they've been visited by another via the totem animal.

I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever and it feels extra cool in this particular case. ;)
