Parrots are, well, proof that at least one half of the phrase "the birds and the bees" is accurate. Most parrots believe in 'doing it' early and often, and Peri is no exception. About a half-dozen times a day she mounts the perch with her favorite well-position knot and, umm, takes it for a joyride. She especially thinks my singing voice is sexy. Anytime I start to sing, she drops whatever she is doing and dashes over to her perch for a little birdie adult fun.
The other day I finished a very special mala, a 111 bead mala made entirely of sterling silver, fine silver, and vermeil. Such a mala is occasionally used in some Tibetan tantric traditions, where it is considered to multiply whatever one counts on it by 100,000. Precious metal malls are not easy to find, and I had to actually machine some of the silver to make it all work. All it now needs is another round of buffing out some scratches, and a photo shoot, and it will be available on my Artfire site.
Occasionally, with pieces that take extra work, at the end of their construction I'll more-or-less dedicate them by running through a full cycle of prayers, mantra, or whatever it is that such prayer beads are used for. I picked up the completed mala, looked at it, thought for a moment, then started intoning a mantra.
For a moment Peri was puzzled by this unfamiliar sound. Then she ran over to her favorite perch and, umm, "meditated" in her own special parrot way to the rhythm of "om mane padme hum" :)
