Anyone a fan of "Community"? Great episode on religion this week!
Does anyone watch the NBC "sitcom"--well, half-hour comedy anyway (no laugh track)--Community? I have been a RABID fan since the first episode last year.

For those who haven't seen it, it's about a very odd group attending community college. The "leader" was a slimy lawyer but was caught with a fake degree, so he had to go back to school and get a real one. The others are a radical feminist, a devout Christian newly divorced mother, a high school "star quarterback" who blew out his knee (doing a kegstand at a party) and lost his scholarship to a four-year college, an older retired guy who's completely out of step with the 21st century (Chevy Chase--marvelously understated but completely insane at the same time), a girl who was a goody-two-shoes in high school but missed her senior year because she was getting over an addiction to Adderal, and a guy with Asperger's who wants to be a filmmaker and always has a handy reference to some movie or other to compare with whatever is going on in "real life".

This week the Christian mother, Shirley, asked the film guy, Abed, to help her make a YouTube video for her church to get kids interested in religion. He came up with an idea for a "meta" film--a filmmaker making a movie about Jesus who discovers he's actually Jesus and God is making a film of him...!

Anyway, Shirley doesn't go for it, but he makes it anyway, and the results are BRILLIANT. He dresses like Jesus Christ Superstar set in present day (leather pants!) and starts talking in veiled philosophical statements, and the students at the school watching him make the movie actually become his followers.

It's nearly impossible to explain, so all I can do is recommend that you take 22 minutes out of your busy schedule to laugh your ass off! Here's the Hulu link. Hope you give it a shot! I think I'm going to watch it a second time. :hi: http://www.hulu.com/watch/184793/community-messianic-myths-and-ancient-peoples#s-p1-so-i0

1. It sounds good
though I'll have to watch it later. AT&T has decided to mess with my data connection this weekend (not intentionally that I'm aware of, just really bad data service) but I'll keep it in mind :)

Did you get all of your gardening and cleaning done?

4. Hey you
Sorry AT&T is messin' witcha. That sux. Hope it clears up soon.

I have so NOT gotten everything done. And then I caught MG Jr's October plague. (He got over it in two days; I've had it a week.) x(

Have not raked. Have not spread the winterizer fertilizer on the lawn. Still have to finish painting the back steps and put a second coat on the clapboards that the renovation crew put up late last year, but I'm not sure I'll have good enough weather for it (and I ran out of paint--must get more...) Tell me again why being a homeowner is supposed to be a good thing--?

PLUS I have to get ready for MG Jr's Halloween birthday party on Saturday. His "birthdaypalooza week" starts then--as usual, he gets three parties: one with his friends, one in school, and one at grandma's house the following weekend.

PLUS I have to rewrite the article from hell by tomorrow, while I'm getting crap from the VIP's minder, demanding that the VIP have lots of time to "contribute edits" (read: rewrite the whole damned thing) even though we have a TEEENY time frame to get this thing in shape (because they ignored me for THREE WEEKS).

Other than that, everything's cool!

How you be? :hi:

2. Community is the best sitcom in years
It also gets my vote for best episode of any sitcom ever.

The paintball episode! That would be where they're competeing for a position to select their classes for the next year. And the showreally has heart. Past all their differences, the study group members really care about one another. It's about community.

Absolutely hilarious. I mean LYAO hilarious. Timely message without being obnoxious. Chevy Chase is in it and really shines as the sleazy old fart that he plays. I LOVE it.

3. That paintball episode is great...
Especially how it references so many other genres and films in such a short time!

5. The paintball episode was sheer GENIUS
Every single line was perfect. So many cliches in so short a time--!

Shirley: I'm going home...

Britta: Yes, you are, Shirley...

Shirley: No, seriously--I'm going home. Help me up.
