Your Favorite meditation/healing CD's?
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 11:57 PM by oxbow
I'm looking for some good music, so let's all share :D Here are my favorites right now:

Dakshina, by Deva Premal The lady with the silken vocal chords. Always puts me back into a joyful place when I'm overwhelmed.

Various Artists-Namaste A beautiful and haunting mix of Buddhist chants, Zen "exercises" and other traditional musical forms. Stays with you long after the CD stops.

Mountains of Ice, by Angaagag This is the most powerful healer I know. He's from Iceland, and his stuff is mostly just vocals. However, I use his CD a lot when I'm doing reiki, and it helps me tap into such a miraculous place. I can't find it on his website right now, but its really good.

As you can see, I really like chanting and traditional musics. The instrumental, more western stuff is just too soulless for me. So who's next?

I've downloaded something, must be an mp3 player, but I can't get anything to come out of the settings.

11. iTunes
The way I listen to that mp3 stream is by opening it with apple's free iTunes

Good way to buy 99cent songs, stream mp3's, stream POD casts, play CD's and mp3's and to burn CD's.

Hope that helps.. :)

3. healing music/sound?
I'm very curious to read people's opinions on what constitutes healing sound.
What are the chief characteristics, or is this topic entirely subjective?

regarding the OP, my reply is at least partly motivated by a want to crow about my latest favorite band, though I'll make an effort to refer to selections that are at least remotely appropriate to the topic at hand.

by Garmarna:

"Vittrad" from Vittrad:
this one makes me happy fairly reliably.

"Herr Holkin" from Vedergällningen:
this one can sometimes put me in a state I might describe as "peaceful ecstasy."

"Vänner och Fränder" from Guds Spelemän.

A lot of their material I think is good for brisk walking on a chilly day while not thinking. If I understood Swedish my opinion might be completely different. I often like to listen to songs in languages that I don't understand; to be able to be absorbed in the sounds of the words and the voices without being distracted by the meaning.

---

Uillean pipes solo performed by Todd Denman:

"Eanach Dhúin" from Reeds and Rosin by Todd Denamn and Dale Russ:
a good cry can be very therapeutic.

4. Yea, I like to not understand the words either
It frees your mind to visualize whatever is needed at the moment, instead of locking you into one meaning. I listen to alot of Anonymous 4, and even though I don't understand Latin, their are enough words recognizable to keep me focused on God without limiting my meditation.

5. Does anybody here like Tibetan throat singing?
It seems reaslly powerful to me. It makes my reiki teacher's hair stand on end, but my friend did it when he was working on me and I really liked it. As you can see, I'm kinda of 2 minds about it right now. If anybody knows a good CD, let me know

9. Is this the same as Tuvan throat singing? If so, I really like it.
My family had several CDs of Tuvan throat singing.

10. Similiar...Mongolia and Tibet are close together
From what I've hear, Tibetan throat singing is more disciplined, focused on meditation. You mostly see monks and nuns doing it. Tuvan is more emotional, folk-culture based.

I checked out some Tuvan singing on Amazon today, it was just too intense though. The vibrations were too strong, and I had to turn it off. I seem to be ok with the Tibetan though. How weird...
