I hate to bring this tragedy into such a positive forum, but I really need help right now dealing with the horrific way this person was killed.
What kind of person does this horrible thing. I know we see these things happen, but when I look in that man's eyes (from his picture) I see evil. My heart is heavy and I need some solace to know that this young lady has passed over and is at peace.

I guess I have a long way to go 'cause I feel nothing but pure hatred for this man.

Autopsy: Hiker died from blunt force trauma to the head

BLAIRSVILLE, Georgia (CNN) -- A young hiker whose body was found in northern Georgia died from blunt force trauma to the head and was decapitated after her death, an autopsy found Tuesday.

Meredith Emerson was last seen hiking with her dog on Blood Mountain in Georgia on New Year's Day.

Meanwhile, charges against suspect Gary Michael Hilton, 61, were upgraded to murder, prosecutors said.

Meredith Emerson, 24, had been missing since New Year's Day, and Hilton led investigators to her body Monday.

He did it only after prosecutors promised not to seek the death penalty in the case.

The medical examiner has informed Emerson's family about the details of her death.

Hilton will be charged with one count of malice murder and is set to appear Wednesday in court in Dawson County, said Lee Darragh, district attorney for Hall and Dawson counties.

Darragh said authorities believe Emerson was killed January 4 -- three days after she disappeared -- but would not elaborate.

1. Blue Roses, many of us have heard about this case, and we too
are saddened by the loss of an obviously independent and confident soul, to a monster who was opportunistic and predatory. Take heart, that while they may not be able to seek the death penalty for one so evil based on their agreement which was probably seeking obvious closure for the family, they may indeed seek it for another set of murders which he may very well be linked to and proven guilty of. Karma is inevitable is my belief.

While the death penalty may be frowned upon, I believe in some cases it is a necessary evil. My heart goes out to her family, we must remember always to honor life, and realize that each life is not only a gift to that person, but to the lives they touch.

3. I know, my heart truly goes out to her loved ones.
Take heart, many unite in this sorrow. There is always the loss of what could have been.

You are not alone, Blue Roses, never.

Some things are just beyond our ability to comprehend. Rest in peace, Meridith Emerson.

(On edit: I truly do believe that she has crossed over and is totally at peace now with her soul group on the other side.)

5. Yeah, this is vile, and it's normal for you to be upset about it.
She's crossed over and is in a better place.

That's all I've got, other than the impression "angel." Don't know what the significance of that is.

8. I thought about what you said
the "angel" and for some reason, while her death is tragic, I see where it too has brought light to the fact that this guy has probably been killing for a while. There are others that have come up missing or dead in that same general area, with no clue as to how it happened, but now maybe they will be solved. Meredith seems like a strong, spunky young lady and even in death she brought peace and resolution. I hope her parents can take solace in that.

Stories like this really rip me apart. It was bad before I had kids, but now, sometimes I internalize it so much that I get sick. What is wrong with me? I've always been like this since I was a child. I remember a family next to our house caught fire and while they all got out okay, I stayed awake at night thinking about this. I was ten years old.

There was a similar attack in Oakland with worrisome similarities.
Jessica Birden, 19, was attacked on New Years Day and found on a hiking trail. She too died of blunt force trauma to the head, on the 4th. A suspect was arrested on 1/8.

Now this one is a stretch to call synchronistic so I'll use coincidental - but it's also senseless violence against (even) young(er) women that occurred over the weekend.

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080108/NEWS01/801080368
In IOWA, 24yo Larry Harris is accused of stabbing and strangling his two stepdaughters (8, 10) in what he claimed to be a ritual of some sort, and then setting his home on fire.

He told police a magic spell he was casting to protect his 3yo son (a 'spell of destruction') went wrong 'and could have dire consequences.' Stupid boy. Could the 'spell of destruction' that he screwed up possibly be his attempt to cover up his crimes by burning his home?

IOWA's Ch14 news team covered the story:
The girls' mother Marla tells KMEG 14 that her husband told her he was doing a spell for death and destruction to help Marla's third child stay out of trouble. She says she respected her husband's beliefs, but just asked that he not practice them in the house.
http://www.kmeg14.com/Global/story.asp?S=7590681&nav=menu609_2_3
Ch14 also reports that a neighbor noticed the victims were naked and half-naked, at an odd time of day, when firefighters brought the girls out of their home.

My Spider Sense(TM) is tingling.

PS on edit-- Another coincidence over the weekend that I didn't think of myself - Britney Spears' hospitalization. There's a contingent out there who think that there's some occult weirdness surrounding Britney and I don't have much time to edit this so I'm running for the link now...

9. I know what you mean...

I've taken my kids hiking (it was all we could do to get back to the car without dying from fatigue--never again) on a mountain in Arkansas when we were living there and I always got weird vibes from it. Not so much other hikers, but an over-sense of alert. I don't like people walking behind me whether it be hiking, a mall, grocery store, or sidewalk. I'm always looking over my shoulder. Look what this has brought me to. I guess it's that social worker gene working overtime.:D

Also, to add, I think the forests and mountains, streams, rivers, lakes, and other natural beauties holds with it stories of happiness and sorrow that it begs to tell. Sometimes when I'm alone with nature, I actually think I can hear it talk to me. I usually write it down. I have a journal of several cool things.

11. I want to apologize for my initial reaction to your OP
I should have been more sensitive and sympathetic, and when I reread my post this morning I think I may have seemed too enthusiastic. I tend to find patterns sometimes where none exist.

But it sure seemed in my insomnia last night that even (or especially?) in light of Clinton's success - first woman to win a primary - "something" is warning women not to get too secure in their sense of empowerment, and that kind of thing really pisses me off.

As soon as I read your story, our local news aired theirs about the girl in Oakland. My DH was quick to remind me that rapists lurked on our own hiking trail (A DECADE AGO! I say. "But still..." he says...)

I had stumbled across the Iowa story early in the day yesterday which got me thinking about conspiracies and lunatics. I then read the leaked AP memo (stating that Britney Spears was to be in the news no matter what she did) and remembered that B.S. was hospitalized between 1/1 and 1/4 as well...

I wrote a post on 1/2/08 asking about psychic attacks - my next door neighbor was hospitalized that day because she lost half a day's memory or something like that. Just 'woke up' in her kitchen asking what the heck was going on... I wandered around in a haze that day, myself. Good thing I didn't have to work.
