For those of you who might have missed this post in the Science forum. As one poster to that thread said, we have no language to utter a response. Behold what is truly great -

1. Oh, thank you. I needed that.
The images are amazingly beautiful, and the music is incredible. Sounds like Tibetan throat-singing in the background? I had to go to Amazon and add that CD to my wish list. :)

2. Hi Joolz!
Really moving, eh? The Tibetan monk chanting was the perfect sound track.

6. Yes! The music sounds like a mix of Tibetan monk throat-singing

and the throat-singing of Tuva (a tiny place between Mongolia and Russia). The eerie high-pitched sound we hear in this song is characteristic of music of the Tuvan throat-singers, and the deep chanting of the Tibetan monks who come in later is, of course, easily recognizable.

If you're curious about the Tuvan throat-singers, go to Huun-Huur-Tu's website: http://www.huunhuurtu.com/ The second video they have embedded there has this sound I mentioned on it. I'm fascinated by these guys! Throat-singers just totally amaze me (all of them).

Edit: dumb typo

7. I love Tuvan throat singing. It just amazes me that the human voice...
can do such things.

If you're interested in this, you might want to check out the movie "Genghis Blues".

My hubby and I took a world music class together a few years ago (what fun!). I remember this film being shown in class.

collection. (He already had several CDs of Tuvan throat-singing music.) We also saw it in the theater when it first came out.

Occasionally, a throat-singing group will come into our area, and we always try to support them by attending the event.

We would love the opportunity to take such a class together! :)
