Dream of housing, feng shui, games and adventure
I dreamt that I was looking to buy a house in a town that was nice but run-down, ready to be rebuilt. The terrain and light reminded me of the Northern East Coast. Buildings were wood and the architectural details grand but old, maybe 20's. Kindof a bygone F.Scott Fitzgerald town.

I was particularly attracted to a pair of identical townhouses, 3 stories, priced at $9,000 and $11,000 respectively.

We were warned away from them because they were not structurally sound, and besides, there was only one bathroom in each building and it was on the ground floor. I didn't get to go inside them but saw them from a distance. They were closed off by a storm fence and there was junk in the yard.

So we settled on temporary diggs by taking up one or two rooms in a fancier/more established building (I hadn't decided if we needed a second room b/c the first one I was in was really large enough for us.) The room I spent time in boasted beautiful built-in shelving, enough windows, wood floors, and had a large comfortable bed built-in too (insofar as it was too large to remove from the room in once piece). The halls and lobby were grand but empty of furniture or decoration.

I was shown the apts by a woman. I was happy with the location of the apartment(s) because it was at the end of a road and it would make giving directions very easy. The door practically opened up to the road (my childhood home and room within that house were similarly situated. In waking life I'm studying feng shui and know that this isn't always seen as 'safe' but I interpret that as inviting adventure.)

Before I left the room to go outside and explore my surroundings I mentally arranged my library on all the shelving. In particular I decided to put my board games (don't have so many in real life) just to the left of the door (to the right of the door as you enter). I was holding in my hands a game of 'Sorry' and put it on the shelf as I exited.

Outside, alone, I realized that my younger brother had land nearby. I was very happy for him (in waking life he's not so well-established) and happy to be near him again. I wondered if he'd let me put a garden in, and looked forward to picking berries. I ran across him and a group of his friends just down the road, playing soccer in a field - the ball got kicked out-of-bounds in my direction and fell into the brook at the bottom of an enormous drainage ditch and floated down a huge drainpipe that went beneath the road, and out of sight. The guys playing ball were wondering amongst each other if it was worth chasing (I had decided it wasn't) when I woke up.

Before the dream faded I realized the obvious symbolism in the price of the townhouses, which caused me to ponder the symbolism in the rest of the dream - a bunch of games, housing and finances (more games?), and when games turn into adventurism. So I thought I'd share.

1. that was a neat dream!
Do houses in and of themselves have special significance to you? When I dream of houses it usually means something is going on in my spiritual life that will soon translated into something happening on this plane. Do you have similar feelings, or do houses mean something different for you?

2. Well, the feng shui philosophy holds that our houses are reflections of ourselves

and when I've written about houses in other dreams, votesomemore concurred that in dreams a house symbolizes 'us'

On edit:

I didn't answer the question as to whether houses were important to me. They are! And I dream of them often. My own little home is a sanctuary of love and healing (becoming more so as I continue to clear clutter).

PS I read your 'crossroads' post and wish you the best of luck! It doesn't seem like the move your considering is a greater risk than keeping the job you currently hold.

3. Thanks for this insight
I think I had intuited as much about house symbology. In the past, the house would be my grandmother's house--now it is one I am building myself. Since I had to put up with irate customers at the bug company due to my boss's actions, I'm looking forward to going to the new job training this afternoon!

4. heh
Definitely think so. d'oy didn't even notice the 9 and 11 as I read your post.
Read too quickly sometimes, so repeating things is always good for me!

I love that Stevepol has introduced me to this concept when discussing another's dreams:
If this were my dream ...

There's a lot there. Even lengthy dreams seem to break down into segments in the sequence. I would probably look at each of those as sort of free standing with possibly larger application to the whole.

It would also occur to me that by clearing out all the clutter from my physical home, my inner being is being enlarged and set free at the same time. (I recently saw a weight loss reality show in which a *speicialist* goes into the home of an overweight woman and DECLUTTERS big time. After the house is slimmed down, the women find it easier to adopt a slimmer self.)

Even though you may not be changing physical addresses, you are changing your residence, and by doing so, changing yourself. That's what I might tell myself. ;)

How did you feel?

I had a dream similar in set up. I still love to think about it. At the time, I awoke in the middle of the night. I'm not prepared with pen and paper to record dreams, but I lay awake long enough to remember as much as I could. I felt it was the BEST dream I had ever had. Ever. So I wanted to remember it.

I was house hunting in a new town. At that time I was actually anticipating a move to Austin, but had nothing close to time plans or even how I might achieve it. Is there something else going on in your life in which you are trying to achieve something? Do you know HOW?

One of the subsets of my dream was a private residence. EVERYONE in the town was super friendly and nice. The houses were all unique. I was staying with someone like that. It was a good thing, but set off from the rest of the action. I know I eventually wrote all this down somewhere. After some time, somehow I made a mess in her house. I think I let the dog in and he trashed the curtains. Something like that. (That actually happened when I was a teenager and my bf gave me a dog. He ate my parents curtains and the screen on their patio door. I didn't get to keep him. Which seemed fine. My bf found him in the desert. At least we took him to a shelter. I didn't know what to do with a dog.)

In the dream I told her I would clean them. And I had all these tiny washing machines, about the size of a hatbox. They were going all the time. Washing machines show up in my dreams all the time. There is always something wrong with them. I think the last time I dreamed of them I was starting to get them to work better. Its one of those progressive things. And it appeared as part of this dream.

To save you the details, but get to my favorite part, I saw the house of my dreams. Nightime dreams, not waking. It was a light stucco house with large gemstones encrusted all around the top. I thought it was magical. It, however, wasn't for sale, but I did visit with the owner. Now it feels like I might have more to explore in my own dream from four years ago.

I'm really glad you told this one.
If it were my dream, I would think it important and special.
