Question

I know I've read somewhere that all of us "Angels" had abusive, bad early childhoods so that we would learn "compassion" and "empathy" early on in our lives - but I've read so many books and so many websites - I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.

I have a very young family member who I recently found out has suffered a trauma - and I would like to give her some kind of spiritual book or readings to help her.

Anybody got any advice?

3. Yes - exactly

And yes, I have read Doreen Virtue. But I think of us as "Angels" - I guess because of my childhood memory of seeing them and of a reading I had. And because of the Conversations with God books.

Well - I've invited her to lunch on Saturday - so I know just talking with her will help and I will give her the wisdom of my growth - I was just hoping there would be the one perfect book I could start her on.

ignored the second part of your OP. Since you mention it, why not give her one of the Conversation books? Your care and comfort will mean the world to her.

2. Contrarily, I've found early abuse often makes compassion difficult

Sometimes anyway. Actually I've known some people who were so damaged from abuse and childhood bullying that their love of humanity has really suffered. On the other hand their psychic abilities were quite developed - probably as a survival mechanism in response to an unstable environment.

Seems to me that faith in humanity gets damaged. In cases like that I'd think compassion would have to be worked at rather than coming naturally. On the other hand it probably lends compassion to people in similar situations. which can be a starting point to general compassion.

You know what helped me foster my sense of compassion was reading tarot cards for the general public. It helped me open my heart to people more than I might have otherwise. Perhaps any sort of thing where you put yourself in a position of listening and helping people would help.

5. I don't know of a book

but I'm getting the hit you should make one. With photos of angels and below them affirmations or words of wisdom for the child. And then blank pages for the child to write in. Nothing fancy--pages on card stock, perhaps, with holes punched in them, and bound with ribbon. At least this is the picture I'm getting.
