Connecting dots:
Earlier this week, I posted this on the April 2008 Prayer, Light & Healing Requests:

A young man died today.

A friend of my son's, and my of family, for 23 years.

Comfort to his mother, and the other loved ones and friends he leaves behind, and a smooth journey to his next adventure.

My thanks to all those who took time to remember this young man, and those grieving for him.

I'd like to share the way the week played out. I did so this morning in a thread in the education forum, because that's where the seeds that blossomed this week began, and because I thought it was something important to note. The memorial was today; is not over, as a matter of fact. I didn't have the $$ to make a 2000 mile round-trip, but I've been in contact all week. While I've spent the day with my body here, and my heart there, it occurred to me that what I was writing about is relevant to many, to all facets of life. Relevant to us personally, here. Relevant to GDP too, lol.

An affirmation that walking in the light makes a difference, and that the light you shared with us this week is still shining today:

2. My son just called to report in.
The family had a private interment, and then invited the community into their home. The same 1950s era little tract house they lived in when we first met them. The place overflowed with people who ate, caught up, cried and laughed. Towards the end, they took some time to allow anyone who wished to say a few words to do. I'm sorry I couldn't be there, but my heart is overflowing with the outpour of love and support evidenced. Some of the classmates, and school staff, hadn't seen him since the end of 8th grade. But they still came.

3. that is sad
I know that all involved have a sense of loss. I found it heartbreaking when my kids lost long time friends.

And it is very sad that education now does not seem to value the sense of community. It just seems like the teachers and administrators are stressed out all the time, with too much to do, and not enough time. Kids need nurturing. They don't need to be constantly judged. What a weird society!!

6. Your description of the current status quo in schools is accurate.
Unfortunately.

It's too easy to forget our purpose, our real goals, when we are constantly hammered with authoritarian mandates and threats.

8. Thankfully, familiarity breeds contempt.
Regarding the authoritarian agenda.
