A move to make sure integrative medicine is part of our national health care
I'm placing the link to this here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=5176727&mesg_id=5176727

It includes a link to the main article about doing this.

For those who do not know, the integrative medicine movement is dedicated to using alliopathy and alternative modes of healing to help people become and stay healthy. This is, in fact, what the Foundation where I work is dedicated to doing. You can read more about our plans for Health Care in the 21st Century here:

3. And nutrition is a key
to preventing so many diseases. My MD works with autistic kids and many of them have great changes in behavior after their metabolism is understood and proper diet and supplements and prescriptions can be implemented.

4. I posted from Dr. Andrew Weil about Integrative Medicine
Hopefully it won't get slammed for speaking up about Integrative Medicine and the benefits it will create in maintaining optimized healthcare.

5. Thank you! While visiting Italy a few years ago with a student group....
....we learned that Italians use prevention and homeopathics (and wine!j/k) along with their conventional national health care system. Of course, their diet includes fresh Just-About-Everything! I think we saw maybe one McDonald's, and no other restaurant chains of any type - just small family-owned cafes and restaurants, even in the larger cities. Italians are very fit. Since I am just a little paranoid following the Bush Era, I do wonder if it's no accident that nutrition is not included in physician training here, just as homeopathics are seldom utilized. Homeopathic remedies are cheap and last just about forever. Sick health care is way more profitable, as are pharmaceuticals. I hate being cynical--maybe it will wear off!:patriot:

6. Homeopathy used to be taught in medical school
and homeopathic physicians got along fine with other MDs--in my grandfather's time at least. He was in active practice from 1906 until 1950.

And you are right about medical schools--the Doc I work for says that they try to drum out the idea of diets and supplements having anything to do with health--and drug companies are all right there, ready to show the new docs how their pharmacopia is this magic bullet to cure all.

7. How sad...and criminal, really.

Same thing with veterinarians. Apparently, their nutrition course is handled by one of the largest commercial pet food companies (not good food.) A good diet can make the difference in a multitude of problems in pets, including skin "allergies."
Seems to me chiropractors were disenfranchised as well.

I get it and it is completely NOT on my health insurance. They do everything they can to keep it semi-affordable--don't even take credit cards. Finally they just got a better office. I have a feeling it won't be on our health program.

Edited to add: my daughter in Washington state has an ND for her PCP, and acupuncture is covered.

9. That's outstanding and thanks for the link
I'm taking a medical billing class to make some income on the side, and do not wish to work for the dark side of medicine/health care and hope there'd be a place for me in the integrative medicine movement as I'm already a believer.
