Test to test the differences politically/morally etc
I found this in another group and am very curious to see where we fall.
How different are we? Not so much is my uneducated guess.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -8.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.03

5. My thought here was to take this and see how much more we have in common
with others who we each see as very different from ourselves. Whatever else we believe we see pretty much eye to eye with the skeptics on this.

As much fun as they poke and as surprised as we all get at some comments, this we do have in common. Soooo...

I'm adopting a DU'er, quietly and without giving them any idea and I'm going to just read what they have to say, I'm going to listen closely and honor what they have to offer without condition. I don't have to agree with them on the "woo" but at least I can trust them with my country and allowing us the right to be who we are.

This is not a call out or an invitation to hurt or throw barbs at anyone, it's just an experiment (though an "unscientific" one.) ;)

9. Must admit ..
was expecting higher scores for authoritarian from them. Interesting to ponder what the higher scores for libertarian indicate.

6. I'm also in the same quadrant as you
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 01:57 PM by Sanity Claws
but not to the same extent.

Economic Left/Right: -6.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72

It's nice to share a quadrant with you, Mandela, and Gandhi.

Interesting how they couldn't find examples of someone being both right and libertarian.

7. what's interesting about this is that we only have two political parties
And getting some people to fit into the box of the politcal parties can be a stretch.

The Republicans, of course, have a huge problem with having some of the most authoritarian folks (the fundamentalists) and the most libertarian Ayn Rand types. They aren't too comfortable with each other right now. Heh heh.

8. I think the wording of this test is slanted to the left / libertarian side
for instance "The businessperson and the manufacturer are more important than the writer and the artist." could just as easily have been stated "The the writer and the artist are more important than the businessperson and the manufacturer."

I would have answered the same in both instances, yet I suspect they would have scored the answers differently.

14. Did you note your results?
I'm confused with your analogy. I guess if you disagree that any of them are "more important", you're answer would remain constant. But, if someone believes that commerce is "more important", seems to me that would plot in a different quadrant. It could have been stated either way. But, an agreement with either statement would be measured in the applicable quadrant.

13. Mine's changed a bit over time.
(Actually, it would probably change from day to day.)

Here are my scores from today:

Economic Left/Right: -8.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.36

I did it last year May in another group and got the following:

Economic Left/Right: -7.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.03

I guess that it's not a big difference...

Thanks, LaurenG. :pals:

15. I've taken this a couple of times a year for the last 6 years or so.
I always fall in the southwest quadrant, to the south and west of Ghandi.

My scores vary a little, probably because some of the questions don't give me the response I need, and I'm ambivalent about the less than accurate choices.

I find this particular compass to be more accurate than most. It's why I don't find much to be enthusiastic about with any "mainstream" politicians of any party.
