Two owls calling to each other...
woke me up just before dawn this morning. It was such a beautiful sound, and such a nice way to wake up. My house backs up to the "woods" so I usually wake to birds, but this is a first for owls. They called to each other for about 20 minutes, and I just lie in bed listening to them.

Question: what is the symbolism of owls? And was this a sign for me?

1. The Goddess Athena
was sometimes represented in imagery as an owl, or with a pair of owl eyes. She, and owls, symbolize wisdom.

Perhaps the two owls calling to one another mean that you will be exchanging wisdom with someone.

2. Possibly -- the guides have been talking to me lately
Must be something big if they're sending owls now.

5. Couldn't resist--sorry!
We don't have any owls within earshot of our house, which is in a small town approximating generic suburbia. Lots of sparrows and finches, but the local ones seem to have more of a screechy chirp than a soothing call.

but I don't think so in this case. Check within and you will find your answer.

7. This doesn't feel bad to me at all
It actually feels like a message that all is well. Because there were 2 of them, I'm feeling it might be a "partner" message of some sort. We'll see.

But you know, with the amount of crap I've been through these last few years, more bad news wouldn't even phase me at this point.

14. I think it is a sorting out time
like doing a cleanse--a lot of stuff seems to come up to release. I think your take on the owls is the right one. Always best to trust your own feelings on the matter.

17. Of course you may!
My username is really a combination of my two spiritual names, Ayesha and Haqqiqa. I started using it early on, when I discovered that there were quite a few Ayeshas out there.

8. Owls--very power totem animals
There's pages upon pages about owls in Ted Andrews' Animal-Speak. Generally, though, they represent wisdom (of course), magic, omens, clairvoyance, and astral projection. Seeing/hearing an owl can portend finding a mate (since hooting is a mating call) or opening up your spiritual abilities. Only you can tell which is the correct interpretation.

My owl story (actually, my son's): Just before I got pregnant with MG Jr., Mr. MG and I moved to a log cabin in the woods. I didn't like the house and I didn't like the land, but it was "destined". (Long story, many anecdotes, too tiring to recount!) We were supposed to buy that place, so we did. When my former elder did a reading for me, she said we were supposed to buy the place because that was where MG Jr. wanted to be born.

He was born in early November, about a year after we moved there. We brought him home from the hospital in late afternoon. After nightfall, we heard hooting outside. Mr. MG went to check it out, and he said there were two snowy owls in the pines. They were sitting together, even though it wasn't their mating season. This was also the first time we'd seen owls near our house, although the place was rife with other wildlife.

We knew that it was emissaries of the God and Goddess welcoming our son. It was a very powerful moment.

9. Thanks MG
That's a beautiful story about your son. What a blessing to see 2 snowy owls -- the Universe sure gifts us sometimes, doesn't it?

Your interpretation feels right to me as well. I've seen owls around before -- usually at dusk, sitting in the big oak out near the woods -- but this is the first time I've heard 2 answering each other. I've been single on purpose for a couple of years, and am only now starting to feel that I want be in a relationship, and I think it's the sign that if I call to my partner I will get an answer. But, the clairvoyance part feels correct too. My intuition has really opened up lately and I feel like Spirit has set up permanent residence in my head.

10. Here is some information on the symbology and meaning of owls in spirituality.
http://www.abcpsychic.com/Animals.html

I can't copy the section on owls to post so just scroll down the page until you reach owls.

I hear owls outside my window at night all the time. Sometimes there are two of them hooting at each other across the fields. This happens more frequently in the spring. I believe it's part of their mating ritual. Something personal that I just learned. One of my neighbors told me that the night my husband died, after the ambulance took him to the hospital, there were two owls in the trees around my house. I don't know if there is any symbology there because I didn't know about it until recently. Although a couple of days after, mourning doves arrived at my bird feeder. They stayed for a day and then I didn't see them again. The dove symbology was immediately known to me. My late husband's surname means peace and doves are the symbols of peace. They are part of his family's coat of arms. I'm curious why birds have been associated with his passing myself.

12. Cool site
Thanks Cleita -- that's a comforting story -- like the owls were there to help him in his passing. I have a friend who swears our departed loved ones send us birds, butterflies, bumblebees, dragonflies, and other flying pretties to let us know they're okay and they remember us. My dad sends me bumblebees all the time, and I'm always happy to see them.

13. my owl story
A few months after I moved here, while we were finishing up a day of working on my barn, at dusk we noticed an owl sitting on the fencepost about 15 feet from us. One of the people helping had his digital camera and took some pix. The owl just sat there, so I scooted up to the house and got my regular camera and came back. I started taking pix, with flash, as I approached. The owl didn't budge, just occasionally looked left, right, down.

My last 3 pix, I was about 3 feet away -- I literally was within touch distance. Other than red-eye, the pix are fabulous. The evening sky turned to a dark midnight blue with trees silhouetted behind the owl, who fills the frame.

I do love my birds, so there's no doubt they'll be back. They know who loves them.
