I was thinking about maybe playing 1-2 times a week. I really want to dig into the squad-based part of the game, and it would be nice to play with a stable group to develop some tactics.

I really like the interface of BF2. Its the one part of the game I think they really improved from 42 and BFV. I like using the command feature, the artillery barrage, specifically. But, since the gameplay has had some problems, I've yet to warm up to BF2.

23. 07/25 Update....................

The server is in its final stages of acquisition. However, its looking like an unranked, no VOIP server right now. I'd like to change that. The guy who I am splitting the server costs with are still wrangling over the particulars. Ultimately, I have every assurance that the server will be up and a go by late week.

But in the meantime, a few more questions to get where you folks are coming from as far as gameplay expectations:

1) Would you prefer a loose, "Get on and kill each other" kind of gameplay just to get some gaming in? Or, would you prefer a somewhat structured "kick ass and take names" clan structure where we band together and find us some chumps to mop up?

2) If you prefer a clan-type of environment, would you want to just get together and play, utilizing the BF skills we already have? Or, would you prefer to meet at sometime and have a loose practice, where we could get familiar with individual tactics and come up with contingencies for each map?

Again, sorry this is taking so long. I just want to make sure that this is set up right so we can get the max enjoyment out of the experience.

allow your game play stats to accumulate and stay with you. You will gain rank, ribbons and medals as well as unlock a variety of weapons. Much more to it but that is the skinny of it.

then go into multiplayer and start a local server so you can get some flying practice. I found that I really had to tweak my mouse settings to be able to fly the helicopters.

In other news, a buddy of mine is considering starting a Teamspeak server going. Those wielding mics/headsets might want to consider d/l the TS client. That way we can communicate if we wanna take our show on the road on some other server.

I just introduced the TS idea in case we would want to play on other clan servers. We can use the VOIP bundled with BF2 if we go on a applicable server. Right now, our server is not VOIP-able, but I'm trying to convince the guy I'm splitting the server with to switch over to a voice server.

37. Good Games Everyone Who Played.

A few of suggestions though:

1. Kick votes
2. Map Votes
3. Remove the time limit

toward the end of the night the server was invaded by a few stat padders. I hate those fuckers and they need to be kicked. Also it would be nice to be able to vote for a different map when Kubra Dam and Operation Clean Sweep come up. Other than that, I had a good time. The server had a few laggy moments here and there but overall it was pretty solid. I look forward to playing again.

and they were hogging a resource I coulda used. It was fun and I'll go back for more. We gotta get the Commander and squad thing down with the addition of a few more troops.
I suffered no lag but I had several connection interruptions.

39. I agree with you about working on........

the commander-squad interaction. I liked that you guys were really helpful with calling in shots, spotting enemy movements and calling for supplies. A few things I could think of to improve this would be that we should share the Commander duties to see who fits the role best, and that the Comm needs to direct the battle a bit more. I found it very hard to be a good Com because as a player, I had to dodge incoming tanks and artillery, so I couldn't devote myself to a strategy.

The stat-padders never bothered me too much as I pwned them a couple of times myself. I'd be for kicking them only if they got out of hand. What resource were they hogging, lan? Maybe that's something a little well-placed artillery could fix?

I'll talk to bash_maxas (my buddy, whom I'm splitting the cost of the server with) today and see if I can get a bit more admin control on my end. The thing I would have changed would have been to mix the teams up more. I'm hoping that the connection issues are just a sporadic thing, and not a permanent fixture of our online experience

edit: maybe we could squeeze another session in later in the week?

however, I'm just an old grunt! You were between a rock and a hard place, as commander, due to a lack of troops!
The interlopers took control of the gunship and when I would go to investigate I would be shot down. Should have taken over as commander, as there wasn't one at that point, and put some arty on 'em! Oh well!

62. I gotta say that the 08/06 session....

was the best one yet. I noticed that the teamwork scores went way up from when we last played. I think the combination of effective killing and unmatched teamwork helped us win the majority of the battles. And I think thats the card we have to play. I noticed that the opposing team had relatively low teamwork skills, and eventually that'll be their undoing.

One battle that stands out to me was the game where we were outnumbered 7 to 4. Granted we lost the battle, but I thought we kept those guys on their heels the entire game. .mechanical and porkhole were doing their jobs brilliantly as strikers, nolte_by_nature was a good wheelman and I appreciate how he hauled my ass around to keep the tender kiss of artillery off me. Now if could only get sinned68 and Cr4zyF1r3 to come over to the light side, I'd say we'd be damned tough.

Cr4zyF1r3 (I think) c4'ed both US choke points and took out all of their armor. I thought "oh this is gonna be good". Then we were promptly pasted. I liked the team work. On the big maps it's essential. A TS server would be the cats meow.

64. Alright, a few issues for discussion.........

1) Regular Playing Schedule - I'm liking the way things are going and I think our successes are showing that we can play together as a team. That said, I'd like to introduce the idea of setting aside at least two nights during the week to get together and play on a regular basis. For me the best nights would be Tues, Wed or Sun between 8-10PM EST (However, I will go with the consensus) . I encourage y'all to post what eves and times are best for you. I would also like to password the server on selected nights so we could "practice" with each other.

2) Clan, and Name of said Clan - I have a couple of issues about establishing a clan. My first concern seems to be shared by alot of the folks playing: namely, we have built up rank points on our current characters. Personally, I would be loath to abandon those points just to get a new name. However, I would be willing to do so if the majority of players want to start a clan.
Second, the guy I'm splitting the server with is not interested in having DU incorporated into the name of the clan as he is not a democrat. No worries, bash_maxas isn't a freeper, he's a self-described neo-Bull Mooser, and a damn good BF2 player.
So the solution I came up with is this: If we decide to form a clan maybe we can come up with a name that could incorporate the letters DU in the name, but not necessarily emblazon itself with the title "democratic underground". How about something like: DarkUnderbelly (not a real good example, but you get the idea - put your heads to it and think of something good).

3) VOIP - Lastly, I have not forgotten about VOIP. I'm going to make a big push this week to move our server to a VOIP one. However, if this does not happen, the voice-chat bundled with Yahoo Messenger works very well with BF2 (no noticeable lag or compliance probs). I realize some of you don't like IM, and it could get chaotic as we could all be talking at once, but it is a viable, cost-free option.

I can use all the practice I can get... I'm still not comfortable with all of the features... most of my BF experience is playing DC CTF with my co-workers on our network.

1) I wouldn't mind a Wed/Sun setup. Later is better and I'm on EST as well.

2) I'll create a new id with whatever tag we choose. I'll just switch between the two as the situation warrants.As far as the clan name goes, how about something like Geekish Underground. We get the best of all worlds.

3) A Teamspeak or Ventrillo server would be ideal. Barring that i'd would just try the in-game system rather go with IM. ...less overhead.

i don't mind the unconfrontational clan name. beyond that I'm not really overly concerned with a clan-name being incorporated into the names at the expense of everybody's ranking - and i say that as somebody who's not particularly far enough along to care. i understand that people don't want to lose their rank for that, I think we've got a good group and in the end that's what counts so I'll let those with more to lose come up with a viable solution for that.

Tuesday at 8 sounds great ill be there. as far as regular times, I'm open for whatever days, ending around 10ish pm. Weekends, of course, well I can play till 4 in the morning.

79. Game idea

If we were to get enough players to start a game how about a TDM type? We would base it on an honor system and not capture flags or use air/armor. One round could be pistols and grenades only and the next could be long guns and grenades only etc, etc. Maybe only city maps? Could set game time for a round and maybe adjust # of tickets to win. As we have a ranked server your points will still count.

77. I downloaded the demo, I really didn't 'connect' with the game

I tried and all, spent a good half hour getting the config to something reasonable - and even made sure I didn't let the horrific interface leave me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Perhaps when COD2 is out, I'll reconsider the clan thing, RTCW and Quake2 have been the only things I've played online..
