Help! I'm stuck on Zelda, Twilight Princess, for the Wii.
I started it last night. I got the fishing pole and went to the dock by the cat, and cast the line. I tried for almost an hour to catch a damn fish. I got a fish on the line once, but it got away. I'm going to go look for a book later today, but if anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it. I got so frustrated I swore I wouldn't play it again.

2. Thaks. I'll check that out.
I love to play video games and have played them for years, but it seems that with the later ones I get to a point where I'm stuck. I bought the Wii this past weekend. This is the first game I bought for it, and 15 minutes into it I get stuck.

3. IF you don't get a nibble
within a minute or two, re-cast.

You have to catch two fish, iirc. Just drop 'em on the dock and the cat will grab the 2nd one you catch.

4. Thank you.
I plan on playing it again later tonight. I'll try that.

5. Ugh. I've caught one fucking fish.

But, I've yet to catch the second one, so I think it was a fluke. I haven't quit the game, I just left link standing at the dock with that cat meowing at him, in case I decide to try it again. But I'm at the point where I'm going to give up, and wonder if Wii games are just above my ability level. I've always been pretty decent at video games. I've never been so stuck before :( And it's so frustrating, because it seems like it should be something that's just so easy. Wait for the bobber to sink. Yank the line up. No fish. Lather, rinse, repeat. I'm sick of standing at that damn dock looking at that fucking bobber and watching the fish swim by, and I've already done everything else in that area. :banghead:

6. It really shouldn't be hard
it wasn't for me.

If, when you cast your line, you don't see any fish nearby, cast again. Maybe you're just not in the right spot.

You know that when the bobber sinks halfway down, it's time to pull it in, right? And if fish are nearby but not biting, you can try wiggling it a little.

9. I know that about the bobber. I wonder if my game is defective.
I have actually managed to get a fish to hook on a couple of times, but they get away. I even caught one fish. But this was after much time spent fishing, and since then, nothing. Anyway, thanks for the help. Maybe someday I'll try again, but I'm ready to play some other games, and hope I don't get stuck right in the beginning for them.

7. I had trouble with that one at first too, once you get it though it is really easy
Just remember the rod you get at the beginning does not have a reel on it. All you have to do is throw the hook into the water and wait for the bobber to sink, once it sinks simply pull up on the remote. You should catch a fish no problem.

8. That's what I'm doing. I give up.
Wait for the bobber to sink, pull up on the remote. I've tried recasting after a few tries, fishing from other points on the dock, varying my speed when I pull up. I've read various tips from many different sources, and tried them all. I've probably spent over two hours cumulative on this, at least. Probably more as I was up late trying this last night. I wonder if it's a glitch. At any rate, I'm not wasting any more time on it. I'm going to move on to another game. It's too bad, bececause the Zelda games are my favorite.

10. Damn
I wonder why you're having so much trouble with this? It's worth getting past - it really is a great game!

11. Are you sure about the no reel thing?
I've always used the reeling motion with the nunchuk after I've hooked the fish, and it almost always works.
Every time I just yank the remote upwards to hook the fish, he wriggles free after a few seconds.

13. I think I did the same thing you did at the beginning.
So, just for fun one time, I cranked the nunchuck like it was a reel and voila! I got a fish!
Good luck, and I hope you stick with it, because the game is so good.

14. From the GameSpot game guide
Now that you have the fishing pole, you can feed the cat that’s run away from the shop here in
town. You can find the cat on a pier near the water wheel. Run over to it and equip your fishing
rod. (To do so, hit the - button, point at the rod, and hit B.) Using B will equip the rod, then
hitting B again will throw the lure out into the water.

After the lure goes all the way down into the water, you can gently pull the remote control
backwards; don’t go exaggerated and fling it over your head. If you get the "Fish On!" prompt,
keep it pointed upright until you reel the line all the way in, and you’ll have your fish. (Honestly, it
seems kind of random as to whether you get a fish on the line or not when the bobber goes into
the water, but if you keep trying this action, and simply wait ten or fifteen seconds after the
bobber starts to dip before pulling it out, you’ll eventually nab a fish. Don’t worry; you won’t have
to do this very often in the game.)

You’ll probably need to grab two fish here for whatever reason. After nabbing the second small
fish, it’ll fall off your line in front of the cat (make sure you’re fishing from the correct pier; the cat
should be right nearby when you’re fishing), who will grab it and run back to the store. Follow it to
find the owner right perky; she’ll give you half a jar of milk and will allow you to buy the slingshot
for 30 rupees. If you don’t have enough, try smashing more pumpkins, or explore the town more
thoroughly. There’s a ten rupee piece atop the mayor’s house, for instance.
