My answer to Cali on Edwards being more electable:
Actually, he does better in all the GOP matchups than do any of the other
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 07:25 AM by saracat
other Dem candidates and he is the only candidate to actually "win" a competitive election in the conservative south. He actually WON against a "real" candidate and GOP favorite Faircloth and he did it his very first time out!.Clinton ran in a blue state against a weak unknown and Obama ran against Alan Keyes who was literally "imported to Ill and is a joke.! Edwards did very well in the 2003 primaries and came in second. As as far as money goes, I am not sure he has accepted "public funding"' for the general. If he opts out for the general and has won Iowa, we see a very different picture. Edwards is a populist and that message plays very well across the board. He has the lowest negatives of all the Dem contenders, contrasted with Hillary who has the highest.

Unlike Clinton, for whom many have a visceral hatred, people like Edwards. He has a good back story and people love his wife.He has the appeal of both the common man and the Horatio Alger story of the American Dream. And he doesn't offend anyone. As for the polls, the media has been spinning Clinton all the time. She is the candidate they want for the horse race.Edwards has been too obvious in his attack on the corporations. They do not easily give air time to their enemies. Most of the public is not yet paying attention, but they will begin after IOWA.The race has already tightened there and I believe Edwards will take IOWA.He is very well liked there and relates to the rural population like none of the other candidates.

Edwards is very electable because he is speaking for most of America and he is speaking across the divide. America doesn't identify with ivy league educated elitists and they don't identify with DC insiders.Edwards is the one they would like to have a beer with this cycle. He asked them to listen to their heart and I think they will.

1. I agree, and actually like him more and more
After listening to Elizabeth on "Wait, Wait, don't tell me", I think they are funny, loving people. Elizabeth is quick on the uptake, being able to quip with the best of them, including PJ O'Rourke.

Damn and after reading the Washington Monthly article, I didn't know that Gore almost had him instead of Lieberman as a running mate. Wow, what a big difference that would have made.

zalinda

PS. For any of you who didn't listen to Elizabeth on PBS, she confessed........John doesn't use any hair products, but shampoo. Gasp!

3. zalinda, what's "Wait, Wait, don't tell me"?
If Elizabeth could hold her own with PJ O'Rourke, it says a lot about her. I saw him a couple of times on Real Time and thought he was obnoxious. He's a republican, isn't he? Or maybe a libertarian like Bill...I can't remember.

Maybe you should post in GDP that Gore almost chose Edwards as a running mate. I didn't know that, and maybe a lot of other posters didn't either.

Also, why don't you post the shampoo-only info too while you're at it? That might stop the "vain pretty boy" posts.

4. Here's a link to listen to it
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10653707 It's a show that's on NPR.

And, here is the link to the article about him which said he was almost Gore's running mate. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0110.green.html

5. Thanks for the links.
I'll give the NPR show a listen - and that was a good Washington Monthly article about Edwards.

By the way, I saw your GD post about Gore almost choosing him as a running mate. Too bad he didn't.

9. What's wrong with acknowledging his good looks?
I agree with all you said, zalinda, but I think we need to embrace John's good looks & hair, like the Loreal ad, I'm thinking is very much worth it. ;)

8. Completely agree and have been telling everyone I know.
In this election we need to realize winning and Edwards go hand in hand. The country is not evolved enough to ever elect the so called "frontrunners", even if I were to believe what MSM tells us that they are...in reality, what we will have if we go any other route than Edwards is an easier win for the repubs. This country will not withstand 4 more years of republican rule.

If you want change, you want Edwards. :patriot:

Cali is always one of the first to come in on a positive Edwards post and attack. While I wholly understand supporting your candidate, whoever he or she may be, I don't understand going into positive threads and spreading hate.

Thanks for the post Sara.
