NYC Cop Sues dead Groom's Estate for Injuries

From the article: (June 28) -- A New York City police officer involved in the wedding-day shooting of Sean Bell is suing the slain man's estate.

Officer Michael Carey says Bell hit him in the leg with a car while driving drunk outside a Queens strip club before he and other officers fired their weapons and killed Bell.

" suffered serious leg injury when crashed into the vehicle he was riding in before officer Carey ever drew his gun and fired a shot," the suit charges.

Bell, 23, was unarmed when he was killed on his wedding day. He and a group of friends were leaving his bachelor party on Nov. 25, 2006, when undercover cops fired more than 50 bullets at the men, wounding two and killing Bell.

The police officers were acquitted of any criminal wrongdoing in a state court in 2008. Earlier this year, the federal case against the officers was dropped as well, when prosecutors said they had "insufficient evidence to pursue federal criminal civil rights charges."

But Bell's fiancee, Nicole Paultre Bell, has filed a civil suit for wrongful death against the officers. She wants them off the police force.

**********

I couldn't decide where to post this, so I decided to start here. This suit is insane after being acquitted of the charges. You can't make this stuff up. Maybe if the authories started throwing bad cops into prison and taking their pensions for this bullshit and not just letting them resign or firing them (then they go to another law enforcement job in a few weeks), these incidents will come to a screeching halt. If they wanted a safe job, law enforcement ain't it.

2. Oh my God
If it's determined that Officer Carey even THOUGHT about firing his gun at Bell, this lawsuit should be dismissed and the state of NY should sue Carey for wasting their time with this idiocy.
