NAACP considering resolution against racism in Tea Party movement
Listen here.

The folks running all over this site like apes on crack hating every single thing this President does can have GD. They can have Pol Videos and LBN. They can even have GD-P.

But I'm not letting AAIG go without a fight!!! :grr:  I know that soooo many good people have left and I don't blame them one bit. But if you're still here, please don't let this oasis die again.

Now, for the story at hand. :)

NAACP considering resolution against racism in Tea Party movement

"The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will propose a resolution this week condemning racism within the tea party movement.

Snip:

Among the charges lodged against the tea party in the resolution:

•Tea party supporters have engaged in “explicitly racist behavior” and “displayed signs and posters intended to degrade people of color generally and President Barack Obama specifically.”

•Tea party activists have used racial epithets, have verbally and physically abused black members of Congress and others, and have been charged with threatening public officials.

Tea party supporters also have a distorted view of race relations, the resolution says, citing poll data that found that 25 percent believe that the Obama administration’s policies favor blacks over whites, and 52 percent believe that “too much” has been made of the problems facing black people, compared with 28 percent of the general population.

1. Funny you posted this....
I was thinking that I don't post much but I needed to contribute to AAIG.

Anyhoo, I was glad to hear about this. I haven't read the entire article, but the first thing I though when I heard about it is "Bout Time"...what were they waiting for?

2. A resolution is fine but a whole bunch of protests before the media
would have been even better.

The NAACP is not saying anything that anyone doesn't already know. Even the "progressives" here on DU advocating hooking up with the tea partiers have stopped. And I'm hoping it's because they've seen the error of their ways and not just because a bunch of them were tombstoned. :)

3. Agree...
Protests are definitely in order and should have been done some time ago. "Progressives" hooking up with tea party people is one of the reasons I quit posting so much. Why even bother with people advocating for these folks.

Anyhoo...nice talking to you...I've missed my buddy! Hope the hubby and those babies are doing well!

5. The teabagger's response is so appropriate
“I just don’t see racism in the tea party movement,” said Brendan Steinhauser, director of campaigns for FreedomWorks, which organizes tea party groups. “Racism is something we’re absolutely opposed to.” :silly:

Leonard Pitts said that the majority can't see racism. It can stand in front of them, step on their foot, poke a finger in their chest and say, "Hi, I'm racism!" and they still can't see it. Readers here know that they'll scream bloody murder if they think that people of color are getting something that they aren't.

6. Right
"I just don’t see racism in the tea party movement,” said Brendan Steinhauser, director of campaigns for FreedomWorks"

Blows the mind, doesn't it?? Tea partiers have carried campaign signs of Obama with a bone in his nose and pictures of dead prisoners at Nazi concentration camps but "there's no racism here!"

And the bit at the end of the article when they say that tea partiers feel that the President is too concerned about black folks and worries too much about our issues is mind-blowing. Obama has gone out of his way and has actually been criticized by some black leaders for not addressing black issues enough but simply because of the color of his skin, these imbeciles have decided that he will focus "too much" on us.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- you could not pay me all the money in the world to be that man right now. Between the fools on the right and the psychopaths on the left, there can hardly be much room to breathe.

7. Admittedly, I haven't read everybody's post in this thread BUT
did you hear what Mr. Ben Jealous had to say about his ULTIMATE objectives regarding this matter? As stated on the "mornin murderer," Mr. Jealous doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with AA's being members of the NAACP AND the TEA PARTY!! He just wants somebody in the Tea party to denounce ANYTHING racist and derrogatory that has come from the teabaggers regarding POTUS! Good luck with that, my brother! It ain't happenin and HE KNOWS IT!!

Secondly, did you hear what I call the "gun line n&%%#r" on msnbc this afternoon ("tell um bout the gun line, boss!" The "trustee" from the movie, Life, starring Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy.) The "Rev." E.W. Jackson?? THIS man has been totally and absolutely white washed, brainwashed and indoctrinated. He's a lost cause. He says, the baggers are christians that LOVE everybody and are NOT racist. I'd like to know how he defines racist, for starters. I almost spit up. It was the saddest most heart breaking thing I've heard come out of a black man's mouth. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are plenty of us who actually believe that we have arrived and have "overcome." I also believe there are too many of us who are still naive, gullable and "gofers" (go for any damn thing!)

8. Girl!
CNN has been locating one fool after another. This morning, some woman was on the phone with the worse grammar in history saying these people (tea party) are her white christian brothers and sisters! She even stated that they chant her name (whatever the hell it was) for president!....Basically, 'these good white folk love me sooooo much!"

Sad, fucking sad.

She was asked if she found the Mark Williams letter offensive and of course she said "NO"....makes me just shake my head.

9. Girl! Excuse MY grammar but I can't say it any other way. LOL!!
Don't nobody ever tell me that slavery didn't do a JOB on our minds!! Yeah, the Jews went through the holocaust but that was ONE tme in history. "WEE," otoh, are STILL suffering from the effects of slavery over two hundred years later!!! It's terrible, just disgusting. This is why we can't afford to forget, either. School the next generations on what happened and WHY it's still happening today! The methods have changed but the message is still the same.

14. "She even stated that they chant her name (whatever the hell it was) for president!"
:wtf: :wtf:

And she HONESTLY doesn't see right through that?? She HONESTLY thinks that they chant the name of a black woman with the "worst grammar in history" because they believe she's got the goods to be Pres and not merely because she's there, she's black, and by chanting her name they think that it lessens the chance that folks will call them racist?? I can't tell if she's more sad or just plain clueless.

Mark Williams letter offensive

What's that about firedup??

15. The mofo has removed his "letter" from his website....
It was filthy http://www.marktalk.com/blog/

Too late mofo! We have it copied!

Dear Mr. Lincoln

We Colored People have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!

In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’.

The tea party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Colored People to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us Colored People! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.

And the ridiculous idea of “reduce the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of world would we have is I ever to control and be responsible for my life own? As Colored People we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions and if you do not agree than there is not enough Colored in your People, as we labeled Ken Gladney

The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control spending.” Again, they directly target Colored People. That means we Colored People would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! Totally racist! The tea party expects Colored People to be productive members of society, especially when our mission is to convince them that progress is impossible for them based on the color of their skin?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by someone else. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we say that belong.

Sincerely

Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Head Colored Person

It's titled NAACP VS. Tea Party over racism.

The nuts' name is Lloyd Marcus.

Also, I stand corrected...she said the signs she has seen say "Lloyd Marcus for President".

Please listen..please!

You are a mess!

Mr. Jealous doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with AA's being members of the NAACP AND the TEA PARTY!!

I think this is him trying to have his MLK "peace on earth" moment because I don't see how any thinking black person could be a member of the tea party. Which is why there's only that one crazy brother with the gun and that imbecile woman running for Congress that are members.

The "Rev." E.W. Jackson??

The fact that his initials are EW as in ewwww are verrrry telling.:) I have never heard of this man but he does sound sad and confused. Sounds like he's trying to have his MLK "good Christian preacher" moment too. But I would think that part of being a good Christian preacher is recognizing evil and trying to mitigate its impact, not ignoring it altogether.

18. Frankly this is the result of decades long
planning and propaganda. Start with Joe Pyne. (Am I dating myself? )

Republicans have been excellent at "product placement." Now that we're some days in, the resulting brouhaha is all about framing. The RW is attempting to enshrine white denial with Beck wrapping himself in the mantle of MLK.
I'm tellin' ya chilluns dis shit is SURREAL.

19. "with Beck wrapping himself in the mantle of MLK."
You are NOT lying!! I've seen some of the craziest shit lately.

I've seen the most racist idiots running around quoting MLK. There are groups that are trying to deny rights to other groups comparing their plights to the civil rights movement ie when the Mormons were accused of trying to influence Prop 8 in California. The whole damn world has TRULY gone mad.

Even on DU, I noticed that some of the most clearly bigoted people (bigoted against people of color, religion, Southerners whatever) were some of the main ones with MLK, Gandhi, or Coretta quotes in their sigs. How in the hell are you going to rail against blacks, the religious, Southerners or whatever while professing undying love and devotion to people who personified EACH of these traits??!   Good Lord! The stupid -- it burns!
