N.D. National Guard unit deploys for Iraq

BISMARCK, N.D. — Family members and friends gave a North Dakota National Guard unit a sendoff as it prepares for duty in Iraq.

The Guard’s 191st Military Police Company, with 187 soldiers, is based in Fargo, with detachments in Bismarck and Mayville. The unit is slated to deploy Sunday to Fort Dix, N.J., for training before deploying to Iraq in March.

Sendoff ceremonies were held Friday in Bismarck and Mayville. A similar ceremony is slated for Saturday in Fargo.

Gov. John Hoeven addressed the soldiers in Bismarck.

“Look after each other, take care of each other, support each other while you’re over there,” Hoeven said.
