CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Afghan doctors who treated civilians injured the morning a Marine spec-ops platoon was attacked in Nangarhar province said they believe some patients suffered gunshot wounds.

Dr. Fazel Rahim Shagiwal testified in a court of inquiry here Thursday morning that he operated on two patients and saw 15 or 16 others March 4 at Jalalabad Public Health Hospital.

“Most of those injuries that I saw, because they had an entry point and an exit point, they were bullets,” Shagiwal said through an interpreter via video teleconference.

On cross-examination in the hearing, looking into the incident involving Fox Company, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Shagiwal said doctors did not recover anything from patients that could be identified as bullets.

Marines in a Fox Company platoon are accused of indiscriminately shooting at Afghan civilians after a suicide vehicle bomb attack on their convoy, killing a reported 19 civilians and wounding several others. The entire 120-man company was removed from Afghanistan shortly after the incident.
