Citibank to take over DOD travel card accounts
Citibank to take over DOD travel card accounts
By Leo Shane III, Stars and Stripes
Mideast edition, Friday, January 25, 2008

WASHINGTON — More than 1.2 million troops and civilian workers will have to turn in their government travel cards for new versions this fall.

Defense officials announced last week that Citibank will take over the accounts for all of the defense travel cards under terms of a new 10-year contract. Bank of America, which currently holds that contract, opted not to rebid for the work.

So regardless of the expiration date on current Bank of America cards, all of the current travel accounts will expire Nov. 29. The new Citibank cards will be activated Nov. 30.

Defense spokeswoman Eileen Lainez said since the same rules and regulations will apply under the new travel cards, current cardholders will not have to undergo training.

But travel coordinators for various departments will need additional training on Citibank procedures and new online banking options not previously available with the Bank of America cards, she said.
