Pacific briefs: Air Force officer pleads not guilty in rape case

KUNSAN AIR BASE, South Korea — An Air Force officer pleaded not guilty Monday to raping a civilian woman on Kunsan Air Base in late 2006.

During the first day of his court-martial, Maj. Mark Seldes also pleaded not guilty to charges of conduct unbecoming an officer and adultery.

According to court documents, Seldes is accused of having sex with the woman between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 and of raping her on or about Nov. 4.

Because Kunsan is a small base, the six jury members were selected from a pool of officers from Osan Air Base.

The court-martial was to continue Tuesday.
