Man convicted in 1983 rape-slaying of AF vet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — An imprisoned sex offender has been convicted in the 1983 rape-slaying of an Eastern Michigan University student.

Jimmy E. Green, 49, was accused of attacking and stabbing 26-year-old Laura McBride, a nutrition student and Air Force veteran who was walking to class.

Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge Donald Shelton found Green guilty Wednesday of felony murder, which carries a mandatory life prison term without parole.

Sentencing is Feb. 26

Shelton says he didn’t believe Green’s testimony that Green had consensual sex with McBride sometime before she was slain.
