Iraqi hostages rescued from buried container

American troops near Samarra rescued two Iraqi hostages who were locked inside a buried storage container in the desert.

The men were found Monday after Iraqi police received a tip on the hostages, according to a news release issued Thursday by the U.S. command in Iraq.

The police passed the tip to U.S. soldiers from Company C, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, who were working from Patrol Base Olsen in Samarra.

The troops found two men in the buried container, the release said.

“The hostages, both from Yethrib Village near Balad, were taken from a gas station along with a fuel truck by men in black masks,” the news release read.
