Soldier surprises stepdaughter at school

HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. — The North School classroom was full of electricity.

After all, they were talking about electric conductors and insulators, when fourth-grader Cheyenne Tripp saw the man in military uniform step through the door.

She bolted out of her chair and cried “Papi!” as she ran to and hugged her stepfather — and then wouldn’t let him go.

“There’s a news scoop,” student Elijah McClain said to his teacher and a reporter sitting nearby. “Military father comes during class.”

Still holding tightly to her stepfather, Spc. Mario Campa, and to the teddy bear he gave her, the 11-year-old later said: “I really freaked out (when I saw him) because he hasn’t been home for a while, and I really missed him.”
