Blue Angels to recruit Marine mechanics
Blue Angels to recruit Marine mechanics

For the first time, the Blue Angels will actively recruit enlisted leathernecks for its F/A-18 mechanic staff.

Gunnery Sgt. Daryl Wood, the team’s senior enlisted Marine, said he is seeking candidates to fill two openings — for a power plant mechanic and an airframes mechanic — on the seven-member team he oversees.

“We’re trying to give more Marines a shot and make it more competitive,” he said. “There are Marines in the fleet who don’t know they have a chance to do this, and it’s a pretty good duty.”

The positions are open to E-5s and above. Eligible military occupational specialties include 6337 (aircraft electrical systems technician, F/A-18); 6317 (aircraft communications/navigation/weapon systems technician, F/A-18); 6217 (fixed-wing aircraft mechanic, F/A-18); and 6257 (fixed-wing aircraft airframe mechanic, F/A-18), Wood said.

“We’re looking for seasoned veterans,” he said. “We want people who have been in the fleet a while and are qualified in their MOS.”
