Electronic databases consolidated
Electronic databases consolidated

The electronic databases supporting the personnel files of 3.7 million current and former soldiers have been consolidated at a single record center in Alexandria, Va.

However, as part of that long- planned consolidation, the Army also is establishing a backup, or “fail safe,” record center at an undisclosed location outside the Washington area.

To support that effort, duplicate files of the records in Alexandria recently were moved by ground vehicle to the backup site.

Jim Riggs, program manager for the Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System, said that in the event the Alexandria records center is destroyed, or otherwise disabled, the backup site could be up and running within two hours.

The interactive data base contains nearly 110 million documents previously housed at record centers in Alexandria for active-duty officers; Arlington, Va., for National Guard officers; Indianapolis for Regular Army enlisted soldiers, and state and territorial repositories for enlisted Guardsmen.
