Upgraded sniper targeting pod unveiled
Upgraded sniper targeting pod unveiled

Lockheed Martin unveiled an updated version of its Sniper targeting pod that allows two-way video data link between pilots and airmen on the ground, the company announced Thursday.

Lockheed representatives demonstrated the technology to airmen at the company’s Missiles and Fire Control facility in Orlando, Fla., according to a Lockheed press release.

The Sniper currently in service on Air Force aircraft collects video and transmits it to Rover devices carried by airmen on the ground. The new version will allow the airmen to upload images and video directly back to the Sniper pod, providing pilots better awareness of the situation on the ground, according to the press release.

The two-way video capability will be added to Sniper pods built later this year, according to the press release.

The Sniper pod is used on the F-15E, F-16, A-10 and B-1, as well as on Navy and Marine Corps aircraft.
