Jessica Lynch: 'No Regrets' About ArmyDominion Post | By J. Miles Layton | February 25, 2008
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Moments before Army veteran Jessica Lynch gave a speech Feb. 23 at the Lakeview Resort, she said, "I am doing fine. Thank-you for asking."
On March 23, 2003, Lynch's 507th Army Maintenance Company convoy was in the Iraqi town of Nasiriyah when it took a wrong turn and was attacked. Eleven American Soldiers were killed and six were captured, including Lynch.
The five-foot, three-inch tall former supply clerk suffered two spinal fractures, nerve damage and a shattered right arm, right foot and left leg when her Humvee crashed during the firefight. Lynch, who walks with a slight limp, said her latest surgery was on her right foot in August. She doesn't have any feeling in her left foot.
Lynch said she and her brother Greg had always wanted to serve in the Army, and that she needed money for college.
Lynch said she never thought she would be in a combat situation, but shortly after Lynch enlisted in 2001, Sept. 11 changed everything.
