Reservist accused of killing former girlfriend
Reservist accused of killing former girlfriend

A Marine Corps reservist who served three tours of duty in Iraq was charged with murder after allegedly breaking through an apartment window and stabbing his former live-in girlfriend to death.

Lance Cpl. Eric Acevedo, 22, of Saginaw, Texas, was charged with one count of capital murder in the death of Mollieann Worden, 32, also of Saginaw.

Worden sustained multiple stab wounds with a knife early Saturday in the apartment she and Acevedo had shared until breaking up, police said. Acevedo was arrested and Worden was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to 911 calls about 1:30 a.m.

Acevedo is a member of the Individual Ready Reserve and a machine gunner with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms, Calif., said Sgt. Major Ronald Spencer, a spokesman for the Marine Corps Mobilization Command in Kansas City, Mo.

He deployed to Iraq three times between February 2004 and February 2007 and joined the IRR in June 2007. He has earned at least eight military medals or ribbons, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Spencer said.

1. How do you know that it was PTSD?

Did you know this reservist personally or have you read his medical files? Speculations about his mental state are nothing more than grasps at straws to assign blame to something other than facts that are not in evidence.

On an unrelated side note. Why is it that it seems that a majority of the posts I see from you are stories that cast the military in a negative light or contain a comment that is a slight of the military?

Edit. Clarified the side note comment.

3. If you read the article, it sez:
Acevedo’s father, Andres Acevedo, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram of Texas that his son had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and had not been the same since returning from Iraq in 2007. Worden and Eric Acevedo broke up about three months ago.

Regarding my posts, I post what is in the Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, Air Force Times, Stars and Stripes and military.com. My comments primarily are directed at the absurdity of spending 60% of discretionary income on the military or on the foolishness reported upon. Converting old subs to Tomahawk missile launchers for $3,000,000,000 or F-22s for $355,000,000 or a $239,000,000 F-35 or a $600,000,000 LCS ship are a few examples.
