Almost 500 soldiers from the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion at Fort Lewis, Wash., will deploy to Iraq later this spring. A sendoff for the soldiers is scheduled for today at Fort Lewis. Their mission in Iraq will be to search for and destroy improvised explosive devices, repair roads and do general construction. This is the battalion's third deployment to Iraq. Its first tour was in November 2005, and its second tour began in August 2006.
