Retired Gen. James Jones, the 32nd commandant of the Marine Corps, was tapped to sit on the board of directors at the Chevron Corp., the company announced last week.

Jones, 64, is currently president and chief executive officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy.

At Chevron, Jones is expected to serve on the public policy committee and the board nominating and governance committee, the company said March 26.

Last year, Jones chaired of the Independent Commission on the Security Forces of Iraq, which was created by Congress. The commission reported that the Iraqi army was “dysfunctional.”

Jones served as commandant from July 1999 to January 2003. He went on to be NATO’s supreme allied commander in Europe from January 2003 to February 2007.
