Fifteen years after it first joined the space mission, Air Force Reserve Command has its first space wing.

The 310th Space Wing officially stood up April 4 at a ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. The unit will be headquartered at nearby Schriever Air Force Base.

The wing comprises 16 units under the 310th Operations Group and the 310th Mission Support Group; its commander is Col. Jeffrey J. Ansted.

“I think we’ve lived up to our vision as an unrivaled wingman to our Regular Air Force counterparts,” Anstead said at the opening ceremony, according to a service press release. “We’ve also had the opportunity to take the lead in certain space operations, like an unrivaled wingman should.”
