OLYMPIA, Wash. — A Fort Lewis soldier who went AWOL after returning from a 15-month combat deployment in Iraq is in jail in Olympia after his arrest on suspicion of three residential burglaries.

An Army platoon sergeant says 22-year-old Brandon Tyler Schein has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder since returning from Iraq.

Schein was arrested on Thursday afternoon after Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies received the reports of three residential burglaries in the area.

The sheriff’s office says it took three deputies to subdue and apprehend Schein, who had a loaded revolver in his waistband and who disarmed a deputy’s Taser during his arrest.

Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Gordon Phillips says Schein was about to use the Taser on the deputy when a second deputy arrived, using a Taser to subdue Schein.
