Where can I check to find a Veterans rank when they left the service?
I bought my hubby a beautiful flag case for his dad`s flag. I would just love to be able to have an inscription with his dad`s rank (this is a Christmas gift). Is there any way that I could find out what his last rank was? Hubby idolized his dad, and I KNOW this "present" will mean an awful lot to him. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I do not even know where to begin in this quest. Thanks in advance!

1. As long as you have his SSN, you can request
the information from St. Louis. You can't get much, because you are not next of kin - but you can request rank.

Look here:

Be sure to read about the 1973 fire - there were a LOT of records destroyed (although they should still be able to determine his rank from other sources).

3. Contact the VA
Your husband has the right to receive all decorations and records of his late father's service. I forget how I did it for my Dad but check the VA's web site and your local congressional reps office.

It would be really nice to mount the decorations on display with the flag.

6. if you happen to already know for sure what years he was in,
and about when/where he deployed, you can get started on the service and campaign awards before you get the records.
