A former chief of naval operations has been tapped for a new job: chief executive officer of General Dynamics.
General Dynamics announced Wednesday that retired Adm. Jay Johnson would replace Nicholas Chabraja as CEO on July 1, 2009. Chabraja will remain chairman of GD’s board through May 2010.
Johnson, who served as the 26th CNO between 1996 and 2000, is currently the CEO of Dominion Virginia Power and has been a GD board member since 2003.
Johnson will become vice chairman and an executive officer of the company Sept. 2 to prepare for the top spot.
General Dynamics, a defense industry leader producing Navy ships, submarines and weapons systems, plans to deliver the second Littoral Combat Ship later this year and soon will start construction on the next-generation Zumwalt-class destroyer.
