All three Army components exceeded their recruiting goals for April, according to information released this morning by the Defense Department.
The active Army recruited 5,681 new soldiers, 101 percent of the goal of 5,650. So far this fiscal year, which began Oct. 1, the component has exceeded every monthly goal, bringing its year-to-date total to 36,696, 101 percent of the year-to-date goal of 36,250. The goal for the year is 80,000.
Army Reserve recruiters netted 2,356 soldiers, 118 percent of the April goal of 2,000. April marks the third straight successful recruiting month this fiscal year for the Reserve, which struggled earlier in the year and missed three of its first four monthly goals. The strong showing in April bumped the component to 104 percent of its year-to-date goal, with 16,629 soldiers. The Reserve’s goal for the year is 26,500 new soldiers.
The Army National Guard had another strong month in April, with 6,201 new soldiers, 112 percent of its goal of 5,538. The Guard, like the active component, has exceeded every goal so far this year. It has recruited 39,155 soldiers so far, 112 percent of the year-to-date goal of 34,975. The annual goal for the Guard is 63,000.
