USAFE to shift millions toward Air Force-wide program
By Sean Kimmons, Stars and Stripes
European edition, Wednesday, May 14, 2008

RAF LAKENHEATH, England – Starting next fiscal year, U.S. Air Forces in Europe will have to redirect millions of dollars from its budget toward funding an Air Force-wide $3 billion modernization program, which includes replacing aircraft.

Throughout the European theater, plans are in place or will be in the near future to feed roughly $55 million during fiscal year 2009 into this five-year program, according to Air Force officials.

USAFE officials wouldn’t release the command’s projected fiscal ’09 budget because Congress hasn’t yet enacted the appropriations bill.

USAFE’s fiscal 2008 budget is $1.1 billion.

"This Air Force-wide program directs MAJCOMS to seek areas where they can save money so that we can reprogram those savings into top Air Force priorities," Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Col. Naomi Russi wrote in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes.
