BREMERTON, Wash. - Thousands of spectators lined the sidewalks of downtown Bremerton, Wash., to join in saluting service members past and present at the 60th Annual Armed Forces Day parade, May 17.

The event was themed "Saluting Those Who Serve." The event's Grand Marshal was Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead, and the parade itself included every branch of the military.

Roughead said the Pacific Northwest is the key to an operational Navy and this area is vital to the nation's interests. He said he also appreciates the opportunity to meet Sailors in person.

"I love getting together with Sailors and gathering with them at events like these because that's how I find out what is on the minds of our people," said Roughead. "This allows me to go back to Washington, D.C. and make better decisions to develop policies that support the Navy today and tomorrow."

For Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Psyletta Gilroy, Naval Hospital Bremerton (NHB) Sailor of the Year, being part of the parade was an honor.
