OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Two years after the deaths of Iraqis in Hadithah, Iraq, by Marines came to light, military prosecutors will begin the first of three general courts-martial pending against former members of a Camp Pendleton infantry battalion.

The general court-martial of 1st Lt. Andrew A. Grayson is scheduled to begin Wednesday in a Camp Pendleton courtroom, Marine officials said Friday. Grayson was an intelligence officer with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, during a combat tour in Iraq in late 2005.

Grayson is charged with two counts of false official statements, two counts of trying to fraudulently separating from service, and one count each of attempt to deceive by making false statements and obstruction of justice by trying to impede an investigation.

The general court-martial is expected to last one week.

On Nov. 19, 2005, a roadside bomb along a Hadithah road struck a Kilo Company squad convoy, killing Lance Cpl. Miguel Terrazas, 19, of El Paso, Texas.
