Lewis soldiers begin returning today
Staff report
Posted : Thursday May 29, 2008 6:38:03 EDT

Soldiers from 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, will begin returning Thursday to Fort Lewis, Wash., after a 15-month deployment in Iraq.

The rest of the brigade is expected to return over the next three weeks.

In Iraq, soldiers from 4th SBCT, 2nd ID, served under Multi-National Division-North. They were one of five brigades sent to Iraq last year as part of a surge of troops to help tamp down violence in the country.

1. I've a freeper friend who works on those Stryker vehicles...
...he is a civilian getting paid the BIG BUCKS for doing that work. He followed this Stryker Brigade on their missions to Iraq, this is his second tour. He darn near wound up coming home in a box more than once on this tour. A mortar took out his corner of his unit's hut destroying everything he owned a few months back. Regardless of what I feel about his motives-(war profiteer)-he is still a friend.

He will be staying with another friend, one who is well aware of the hazards of depleted uranium oxide. She refuses to allow our returning 'mercenary' friend to bring ANYTHING from Iraq into her home. She is a young lady who someday wants to have children...she does NOT want to take ANY risks of contamination to her home from someone who has spent so long, possibly in DU-Oxide contaminated zones. He of course does not subscribe to the notion that there are any hazards from DU-Oxide.
She is a pretty stubborn lass with legitimate concerns and an unusually high degree of...um... paranoia, so this should be interesting.
