NORFOLK, Va. — A former civilian purchasing agent at Norfolk Naval Station admits he took more than $34,000 in bribes.

Leslie E. Doggett Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of public bribery. He entered his plea in U.S. District Court and was released on $10,000 bond until his sentencing Aug. 29.

According to court papers, Doggett accepted the money in exchange for favorable status for the vendor and inflated orders. The vendor was not identified.

In a plea agreement with the government, Doggett will cooperate in the investigation.

According to The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, FBI and Naval and Defense Department criminal investigators indicated the case is part of a larger inquiry into kickbacks among Navy contractors.

uhc comment: It would be interesting to see the results of the investigation, but I suspect it will be suppressed.
