GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina Army National Guard headquartered in Greensboro will be officially deactivated during a ceremony set for Gilford Courthouse Military Park.

The ceremony on Sunday honors the 113th Field Artillery Brigade. The unit’s new designation will be the 113th Sustainment Brigade.

The 113th has its roots in the first militia units formed in Guilford County and fought in the Revolution’s Battle of Guilford Courthouse.

The 113th served in various configurations in the Civil War, Spanish-American War, the Mexican Border, World War I and World War II.

In 2006, the 113th went to Kuwait and Iraq.
