Army cuts bonuses in SRB program
Army cuts bonuses in SRB program

Selective Re-enlistment Bonus options will continue a downward spiral for at least the near term as the Army reduces spending on re-up incentives at a time of unprecedented success in retaining soldiers.

Eligibility rules and payment levels for the Enhanced SRB incentives that took effect Jan. 1 were updated Feb. 20, and are expected to remain in effect at least through March.

“The Army is constantly changing, so the SRB program sees a lot of changes,” said Master Sgt. Michael Beaupre, a retention noncommissioned officer in the Office of the G-1 at the Pentagon.

“If a soldier sees something in the latest program that likes, I recommend that they take it now, because there is no guarantee it will be there later this year or into the future,” Beaupre said.

Most noticeable among the changes in the new SRB chart is the elimination of the ETS, or expiration term of service, option that was targeted at soldiers whose enlistments expire before Oct. 1, the beginning of fiscal 2010.
