DoD launches health care video contest
DoD launches health care video contest

The Military Health System has launched a “Share Your Care” video contest through March 30 to give service members, their families and MHS personnel a chance to share their stories about how the military health care system has helped them.

Winners will get their own commander’s coin from the Pentagon’s top doctor, S. Ward Casscells, assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, and their videos will be featured on the MHS Web site at www.health.mil.

The contest will use YouTube to manage and collect submissions. Members of the YouTube community will vote on their favorite videos, selecting the top five.

But some people can’t participate on YouTube, because it and other social networking sites are still banned from Defense Department computers because of bandwidth concerns.

Military health officials chose YouTube for this first contest because it offers more flexibility than the Pentagon’s relatively new TroopTube, allowing them to count ratings of videos, for example, a spokeswoman said.
