BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed in combat north of Baghdad.

A statement says the Multi-National Division — Baghdad soldier died Monday of injuries received while conducting a patrol.

The military hasn’t provided details about the type of injuries or the attack. It says the incident is under investigation.

The death raises to at least 4,254 members of the U.S. military who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That’s according to an Associated Press count.
