Coast Guard E-6 faces court-martial

The general court-martial of a Coast Guard E-6 charged with sexual misconduct and assault got underway Monday and is expected to last the entire week, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

Coast Guard Operations Specialist 1st Class Ronald Plante also is charged with maltreatment of a female subordinate, said Chief Public Affairs Specialist Mike O’Berry, with 8th Coast Guard District.

O’Berry said the charges involve “making repeated and unwanted sexual advances” toward a female subordinate from June 2007 to about December 2007 and engaging “in a sexual act with her without her consent” around Oct. 26, 2007. Plante was stationed at Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River, in St. Louis, at the time of the alleged incidents.

It is unclear whether Plante was reassigned after the investigation began.
