NAHA, Okinawa — A Japanese court Wednesday sentenced a 21-year-old Camp Foster sailor to 10 months in prison with forced labor for stealing eight pairs of shoes in December.

Seaman Apprentice Jeffery L. Earl Jr.’s term was suspended for three years on condition he stays out of trouble.

Earl, assigned to 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, stole five pairs of the designer shoes Dec. 27 from a store in Shoppers Awase in Okinawa City, according to the police report.

He then took the shoes to a nearby thrift shop and resold them for about $200.

On New Year’s Eve, he took another three pairs of shoes from a store in the Misato district. He was arrested later that day after police picked him up at the thrift shop trying to sell the shoes, the police report said.

1. Sounds reasonable -- until you remember he is 21

Expecting a 21 year old to stay out of trouble for 3 years is hoping he is lucky (and he has already been proven not to be).
