AF tests stain-resistant boot options

The Air Force is working on a stain-resistant suede boot that some airmen will be able to wear instead of the original.

Staff Sgt. Tristan Lee wore boots in Iraq that sucked up every drop of sweat, every splash of jet fuel and every bit of dirt.

The airman battlefield uniform boots got so dirty that Lee had to hose them down with a high-pressure washer at a car wash — and even that didn’t get out the stains.

Lee isn’t shy about speaking out about his stain-covered boots, and the Air Force’s Uniform Office, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is listening to him and other airmen who get dirty doing their jobs.

The uniform office has teamed up with Cove Shoe Co., maker of Corcoran boots, to develop a sage green boot made of a stain-resistant material.

Fifty maintenance, civil affairs and medical airmen at Wright-Patterson, Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan and Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany received the boots last year.
