Cadet rape case court-martial set for Tuesday

An Air Force Academy cadet will face court-martial Tuesday on charges he raped a fellow cadet in her dorm room in August 2007.

Cadet 1st Class Sean T. Callahan of the academy’s 35th Squadron has been charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice with dereliction of duty for allegedly drinking when under age, unlawfully entering another cadet’s dorm room and rape, according to the charge sheet.

According to local news reports of Callahan’s Article 32 hearing in October, prosecutors said Callahan came into the alleged victim’s room and forced himself on the female cadet. She did not cry out at the time and waited several days before telling anyone about the incident.

The assault was discovered in May by academy leadership, after rumors led to an official investigation.

At the hearing, the alleged victim testified that she did not want Callahan prosecuted and called him a “nice guy.”
